An exceptional early 19th century watercolour Silk-on-Silk picture. The scene is after 'The Departure of Hector', a 1786 Engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815) executing original designs by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727-1785). The image relays Hectors farewells to his wife and child as recounted in Book 6 of Homer's Iliad. Hector is centrally situated with Andromache to left and Astyanax in his arms. A nurse is also present far right. Wrought in Gold, blue, red and brown threads. Older frame has been re-backed. There is minor fraying to threads along with a small tear to the background far right.
